I’m not the biggest “snow person.” I’m really more of a summer and fall girl; winter is just not my thing. However, there’s something really beautiful about snow. The way it floats, flutters and falls down to earth, the way it sparkles on the ground in the sun.
This morning I woke up to a chill in the air, fresh snow on the ground, and it was still coming down. At first, I was a bit frustrated by this. I had the day off, and I had plans. How would the slippery roads affect my day? I grabbed my phone off the bedside table, acknowledging and reading today’s Spirit Junkie alarm clock affirmation (from the spectacular Gabrielle Bernstein): “Peace sets in when I slow down.” Yes, that makes sense. I want peace, I’ll slow down, I casually thought, and went about getting ready for the day.
As I headed out onto the snow covered roads, it finally clicked. The snowy driving conditions were forcing me to slow down, physically and mentally, revealing just how calming and beautiful the snow can be when you’re not looking at it as an obstacle in the way of your destination. It was peaceful. And in that moment, I had slowed down enough to truly enjoy that peace, within myself and reflecting in the world around me. Pretty cool!
Nature can be such a wonderful reminder of how connected we are, huh?
